What buyers look for in 5 kV and 15 kV equipment
Metal-clad switchgear, vacuum breakers and MV motor control: why the buyer pool is small, why values are high, and what documentation is effectively required.

Panelboards, switchboards and the value line between them
Distribution panels, switchboards and load centers: which carry resale value, which are copper plays, and how breaker content changes the math.

Why MCC buckets sell when the structure does not
How motor control centers are valued: starter sizes, bucket types, bus rating and drive content, plus what to photograph on a multi-section line-up.

Sorting electrical wire and cable before you sell it
MV shielded cable, copper feeders, tray and control wire: which categories carry reuse value, which are pure recovery, and how removal cost decides the rest.

What used load banks sell for, and to whom
Resistive versus reactive, air versus water cooled, kW capacity and control systems — how load bank offers are built and who buys them.

What a used diesel generator is worth, and why hours mislead
How generator offers are built: kW rating, engine family, hours, enclosure, switchgear and whether the set runs. What to send for a written offer.

Busway and bus plugs — the most underestimated line on the list
Why bus plugs sell faster than the busway they came from, how run length and amperage affect value, and what to photograph before a busway removal.

Why obsolete circuit breakers can be the most valuable items in the room
Drawout breakers, discontinued frames and the aftermarket that keeps them valuable. How breaker offers are built and what documentation raises them.

How transformer offers are actually built
kVA, voltage, cooling class, core material and test history: the factors that separate a copper-value transformer from one worth several times its metal.
2026-02-04
What used switchgear is actually worth
How a used-switchgear buyer builds a number: resale value versus copper content, which nameplates matter, and the removal costs that get subtracted before you see an offer.

Why we publish on valuation
Everything filed under valuation comes out of work we actually performed: a line-up we bought, a transformer we drained, a shutdown we scheduled around, a number we had to defend to a purchasing department. We write these notes because the questions arrive in the same order on almost every project, and a page answers them better than a phone call repeated fifty times.
None of it is written to rank for a phrase. The test we apply before publishing is whether a plant electrician, a facility director or an estimator would read it and recognise the situation. If a paragraph would not survive being read aloud in an electrical room, it does not go in.
If a note here raises a question about your own equipment, the quickest resolution is a nameplate photograph and a phone call. We will tell you which of these articles applies to your scope, and what your specific line-up is worth, before you commit to anything.
