Buying electrical equipment in Oakwood

Ohio's steel, glass, rubber and automotive base created a deep installed inventory of General Electric and Westinghouse switchgear and busway, and the state's freight position makes consolidation efficient. For Oakwood specifically, that density helps: crews already move through Columbus, New Albany, Dublin, Cleveland and Cincinnati, so mobilization is a scheduling question rather than a cost problem.

Paperwork travels with the job: a certificate of insurance naming your entity, a W-9, a signed purchase agreement listing every asset and its price, oil test and disposal manifests where transformers are in scope, and weight tickets or a bill of lading for what leaves the Oakwood site. Maintenance, EHS and accounting each get the document they need.

What drives the number

Sometimes the equipment value exceeds our removal cost and you receive a check. On older, stripped or badly access-restricted Oakwood scopes, the removal cost exceeds the value and the project nets near zero or a modest fee. You hear which one you are looking at up front rather than halfway through the teardown.

Safety and documentation

If your Oakwood facility runs permits — hot work, confined space, elevated work, site orientation, background checks — tell us at the quote stage and we build the time into the schedule rather than asking for an extension later. Our people are used to refinery, hospital and utility permitting cultures.

Paper you receive

Certificate of insurance before we mobilize, a written itemized offer, a signed bill of sale, and load documentation for every trailer. If your compliance team needs something specific, ask before we schedule.

Oakwood questions

How fast can you get to a Oakwood site?

Written offers go out the same business day in nearly every case. After acceptance, typical mobilization to Oakwood is a few business days for a straightforward removal and one to two weeks for a full plant scope that needs phasing, rigging plans or utility coordination.

Do we have to disconnect the equipment before you arrive?

No. We handle removal. Your electrician or the utility performs the final isolation and we verify it; from there our crews lock out, cut and cap cable at the gland, unbolt the sections, skate them out and load them. If the Oakwood room is still partly live we phase the work.

How do you handle transformer oil in Oakwood?

Oil is tested, drained and manifested through licensed handlers, and you receive the documentation with your paperwork. PCB-suspect units go under a separate waste profile. Nothing is left on your pad in Oakwood and nothing gets dumped — the handling cost is already in the offer.

When do we get paid?

Before the equipment leaves your Oakwood dock. Wire, company check or cashier's check, whichever your accounting group prefers. On large phased projects we pay per load as it ships rather than holding everything until the end.

What if the equipment is old or has no test records?

We still quote it. Records raise the number — a NETA test report on a breaker or a transformer is the single document that most improves what we can pay — but their absence disqualifies nothing. We price Oakwood equipment on what our technicians and the replacement market say it is worth.

Are you insured to work inside our Oakwood facility?

Yes. We carry general liability, auto, workers' compensation and umbrella coverage, and we issue a certificate naming your entity as additional insured before crews mobilize to Oakwood. We also complete vendor onboarding, background checks and site-specific safety orientation on request.
