Buying electrical equipment in University

Coverage in University is run off our Mississippi routing along I-55, I-20, I-10 and I-59. Coordination with Entergy Mississippi, Mississippi Power, TVA on clearances, metering removal and final disconnect is part of the scope, not a change order. Shipbuilding at Pascagoula, furniture manufacturing in the north and power plant retirements statewide generate MV switchgear, transformers and heavy feeder cable.

If the University equipment is still carrying load, we phase it. Usually that means dead sections and spares first, then distribution as circuits are released, then the main line-up once the last feeder is isolated. The phasing goes into the offer so nobody is improvising in an energized room at two in the morning.

What drives the number

We do not quote high and renegotiate on the dock, which is the complaint we hear most often about this trade. If what our crew finds in University matches what you described, the written price is the price we pay. If it does not — breakers already pulled, windings cut, a different model than the photo — we show you exactly which line changed and why.

Safety and documentation

Nothing leaves a University site undocumented. Nameplate data is recorded as equipment comes out, regulated items like transformer oil and older capacitors are separated under their own profile, and you receive a reconciled report your EHS group can file against the original purchase agreement.

Paper you receive

Certificate of insurance before we mobilize, a written itemized offer, a signed bill of sale, and load documentation for every trailer. If your compliance team needs something specific, ask before we schedule.

University questions

Do you buy equipment that is still energized and in service?

Yes, and most of what we buy is. We quote it now and remove it on your cutover date. Telling us at the quote stage which University assets are still live lets us build the phasing and the clearance coordination into the schedule from the beginning.

Our electrical room is in a basement with a tight door. Is that a problem?

It is routine. Switchgear sections, transformers and gensets frequently have to be cut down or partially disassembled to clear a door width, an elevator limit or a stair turn. The access survey at your University site establishes the path before we commit to a date, and that cost is already inside the offer.

Will you take the equipment we cannot sell along with the good items?

Yes, and this is usually why sellers choose us. Cherry-picking leaves you holding the leftovers of the leftovers. We price the University lot as a whole — good gear, obsolete gear and the scrap fraction together — so the electrical room ends up genuinely empty.

Do you provide documentation for surplus property or audit records?

Yes. Itemized purchase agreements, weight tickets, bills of lading, oil disposal manifests and recycling documentation are standard on University purchases. Public agencies and audited facilities get the paperwork their process requires without having to ask twice.

Do you actually buy electrical equipment in University, or just broker it?

We buy it. Industrial Electrical Buyer is the purchaser of record — we fund the purchase, send our own crews to University to disconnect and load, and take title when the equipment leaves your dock. There is no third party behind us waiting to approve the price.

What is the smallest job you will take in University?

A single transformer, one switchgear section, a pallet of bus plugs or a few boxes of breakers is worth a call. Because we route crews across Mississippi continuously, small University pickups usually get added to an existing run rather than priced as a dedicated trip.
