Buying electrical equipment in Marengo

Coverage in Marengo is run off our Illinois routing along I-90, I-94, I-55, I-80 and I-290. Coordination with ComEd, Ameren Illinois, MidAmerican on clearances, metering removal and final disconnect is part of the scope, not a change order. Chicago-area heavy manufacturing left an enormous installed base of Square D I-Line and Westinghouse busway and bus plugs, and Cook County demolition volume means we are in the metro nearly every week.

The sequence on a Marengo job is short. You send nameplate photos or a list. We come back the same business day with a written itemized offer and a proposed removal window. If you accept, we survey access — door widths, floor loading, dock height, whether the room is still energized — then mobilize, lock out, disconnect, unbolt, rig, load and sweep. Payment lands before the trailer leaves.

What drives the number

Three things drive the number: condition, whether the equipment is still supported, and copper content. A medium-voltage line-up with current vacuum breakers and a recent test report prices as reusable equipment. An identical structure with obsolete air-magnetic breakers and no nameplate prices on its bus and steel. We tell you which bucket your Marengo gear falls into before you commit to anything.

Safety and documentation

Nothing leaves a Marengo site undocumented. Nameplate data is recorded as equipment comes out, regulated items like transformer oil and older capacitors are separated under their own profile, and you receive a reconciled report your EHS group can file against the original purchase agreement.

Paper you receive

Certificate of insurance before we mobilize, a written itemized offer, a signed bill of sale, and load documentation for every trailer. If your compliance team needs something specific, ask before we schedule.

Marengo questions

Do we have to disconnect the equipment before you arrive?

No. We handle removal. Your electrician or the utility performs the final isolation and we verify it; from there our crews lock out, cut and cap cable at the gland, unbolt the sections, skate them out and load them. If the Marengo room is still partly live we phase the work.

How do you handle transformer oil in Marengo?

Oil is tested, drained and manifested through licensed handlers, and you receive the documentation with your paperwork. PCB-suspect units go under a separate waste profile. Nothing is left on your pad in Marengo and nothing gets dumped — the handling cost is already in the offer.

When do we get paid?

Before the equipment leaves your Marengo dock. Wire, company check or cashier's check, whichever your accounting group prefers. On large phased projects we pay per load as it ships rather than holding everything until the end.

What if the equipment is old or has no test records?

We still quote it. Records raise the number — a NETA test report on a breaker or a transformer is the single document that most improves what we can pay — but their absence disqualifies nothing. We price Marengo equipment on what our technicians and the replacement market say it is worth.

Are you insured to work inside our Marengo facility?

Yes. We carry general liability, auto, workers' compensation and umbrella coverage, and we issue a certificate naming your entity as additional insured before crews mobilize to Marengo. We also complete vendor onboarding, background checks and site-specific safety orientation on request.

Can you work nights, weekends or during a shutdown in Marengo?

Regularly. Most electrical removals happen outside production hours because that is when circuits can be released. Night, weekend, holiday and turnaround windows in Marengo are normal scheduling for us, not a premium service.
