Indianapolis, IN: Substations Purchase and Removal

Substations coming out of a Indianapolis facility is worth quoting even when it is decades old. Condition, whether the model is still supported and copper content move the number far more than age, and we will tell you honestly whether your units resell into service or price closer to recovered metal.

Substations we buy in Indianapolis

Indiana industry gives Indianapolis projects a real secondary market close by. Steel mills in the Calumet region and automotive plants across central Indiana run some of the heaviest MV switchgear and furnace transformer installations in the country. Equipment that leaves your site frequently goes back into service within a few hundred miles of where we picked it up, and that is what lets us pay above metal value.

If the Indianapolis equipment is still carrying load, we phase it. Usually that means dead sections and spares first, then distribution as circuits are released, then the main line-up once the last feeder is isolated. The phasing goes into the offer so nobody is improvising in an energized room at two in the morning.

What it is worth

Three things drive the number: condition, whether the equipment is still supported, and copper content. A medium-voltage line-up with current vacuum breakers and a recent test report prices as reusable equipment. An identical structure with obsolete air-magnetic breakers and no nameplate prices on its bus and steel. We tell you which bucket your Indianapolis gear falls into before you commit to anything.

Questions

Do we have to disconnect the equipment before you arrive?

No. We handle removal. Your electrician or the utility performs the final isolation and we verify it; from there our crews lock out, cut and cap cable at the gland, unbolt the sections, skate them out and load them. If the Indianapolis room is still partly live we phase the work.

How do you handle transformer oil in Indianapolis?

Oil is tested, drained and manifested through licensed handlers, and you receive the documentation with your paperwork. PCB-suspect units go under a separate waste profile. Nothing is left on your pad in Indianapolis and nothing gets dumped — the handling cost is already in the offer.

When do we get paid?

Before the equipment leaves your Indianapolis dock. Wire, company check or cashier's check, whichever your accounting group prefers. On large phased projects we pay per load as it ships rather than holding everything until the end.

What if the equipment is old or has no test records?

We still quote it. Records raise the number — a NETA test report on a breaker or a transformer is the single document that most improves what we can pay — but their absence disqualifies nothing. We price Indianapolis equipment on what our technicians and the replacement market say it is worth.
